A CV is usually skimmed first. A clear structure makes sure the most important information is found straight away.
Common sections
- Contact details
- Work experience, most recent role first
- Education and training
- Skills, for example languages, software, driving licence
- Optional: volunteering, projects, further training
Describing your experience clearly
For each role, give the period, employer, position and two to four bullet points. Describe what you did and achieved, ideally with a verifiable example rather than general personal qualities.
Gaps and changes
You can mention longer breaks briefly and factually, such as further training, family or reorientation. An honest, short note is better than an unexplained jump.
Format
- Consistent fonts and date formats
- Send it as a PDF unless something else is requested
- Use a file name with your name, for example "CV_Firstname_Lastname.pdf"
